LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV's contingent bowed out Thursday at the 2018 ITA Mountain Region Men's Championships being held at the Darling Tennis Center.
The doubles team of Eric Samuelsson and Clayton Alenik lost in the main draw quarterfinals to Ruben Montano and Tim Handel of NAU, 8-5. In singles consolation, Jordan Sauer lost to Denver's Matt Summers, 6-2, 7-5.
The finals, which will be played on center court Friday are set. In doubles (11 am), Montano and Handel will face Julien Evrard and Kostya Nesterenko of UNR. In singles (1 pm), Evrard, seeded 10th, will face second seeded and 105th-ranked Ricky Hernandez-Tong of New Mexico.
More than 80 players from 17 western teams were competing here this week. Each day's action begins with doubles play at 9:00 a.m. PT. The finals are set for Friday on center court starting with doubles at 11 am. Admission to all matches is free of charge.
The ITA Regional Championships feature more than 8,000 student-athletes from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, Junior and Community Colleges compete across 85 ITA Regional Championships around the country. In Division I, regional doubles champions and regional singles champions and finalists qualify for the season-ending Oracle ITA National Fall Championships in Surprise, Arizona.
