Easley Memorial Championships On Tap This Weekend

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) -- The UNLV men's tennis team will close out its fall season by hosting the annual Larry Easley Memorial Classic this weekend at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on campus.

Players from five other programs are competing in the individual event. Opponents scheduled to send competitors are UCLA, SMU, Arizona State, Loyola Marymount and Mesa Community College.

The tournament kicks off at 9 a.m. PT Friday and will be made up of one flight each of singles and doubles with consolation play in both. Admission is free of charge.

UCLA's Maxime Cressy downed Arnaud Restifo of San Diego State to win last year's singles title while the UNLV tandem of Courtney Lock and Eric Samuelsson took the doubles championship.

The annual event was renamed in 2010 in honor of UNLV Hall of Famer Larry Easley, who passed away from illness in 2005 at the age of 57. Easley coached the UNLV men's tennis team longer than anyone in history and produced sometimes-spectacular results over his dozen seasons from 1993-2002, including producing five All-Americans and two NCAA individual champions.
