March 21, 2018 LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV Athletics had a department-best 52 student-athletes named to the Fall 2017 Academic All-Mountain West Team, the league announced today. The previous high was 45 in Fall 2008.
Rebel football made great strides in the classroom, as it boasted a team-high 26 honorees â€" six more than its previous best of 20 in 1998.
The women's soccer team had 12 make the list, while volleyball and cross country had nine and five representatives, respectively.
Overall, a league-record 618 student-athletes were named to the Fall 2017 Academic All-MW Team, four more than last year's best of 614.
To be eligible for selection to the Academic All-MW Team, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the school, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their team.
Additionally, the UNLV men's soccer team had seven of its own, a record haul, tabbed to the 2017 Academic All-WAC Team.
