LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's tennis team rallied for a key 4-3 victory over rival San Diego State Friday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
The Rebels improved to 10-5 overall and 2-0 vs. Mountain West opponents while the Aztecs fell to 8-9 and 0-1.
SDSU opened a 1-0 lead by taking two of three doubles matches. Moving to singles play, the hosts needed to take four of six and did just that to earn the team victory. The Rebels got wins from Izumi Asano, En-Pei Huang, Jovana Kenic and Juliet Zhang.
REBEL OF THE MATCH: En-Pei Huang teamed with Aiwen Zhu to win 6-1 at the top of the doubles lineup and then cruised past Paola Diaz on court three in singles, 6-1, 6-3.
STAT OF THE MATCH: UNLV has now won six straight home matches vs. MW opponents dating back to last season.
QUOTABLE: "San Diego State came out and played really well at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles to take the point. Overall we did not play our best today but found a way to get the W."
