SAN DIEGO, California (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV softball snapped its five game losing streak Tuesday in San Diego with a come-from-behind 6-4 victory over the Toreros at USD Softball Complex. The Rebels trailed 4-3 after five innings, but were able to rally for three runs over the final two frames to grab the win in their last non-conference matchup of the season. It was UNLV's third comeback victory this year.

With the win, UNLV improved to 21-13 overall, while San Diego fell to 21-16. The Rebels finished their 2018 non-conference schedule with an 18-7 record.

The Scarlet and Gray offense came alive in the game, scoring six runs on eight hits after managing just seven runs total over its last five games. Six different Rebels registered hits, with freshman Mia Trejo and senior Janine Petmecky recording two hits each. The difference was timely hitting as the Rebels hit .300 with runners in scoring position after hitting just .150 in those instances last weekend against San Jose State.

Petmecky made an significant impact in the circle and at the plate. The right-hander entered the game in the fourth inning looking to keep the Rebels within striking distance as they trailed 4-3 after three and half innings. She proceeded to throw four scoreless frames and even gave herself some breathing room in the top of the seventh with a home run to center for a two-run UNLV lead. The victory snapped a three-game losing streak for Petmecky and moved her record to 13-5 overall.

THE TURNING POINT: The Rebels took the early 1-0 lead in the top of the third, but saw it evaporate immediately in the bottom half of the inning with four USD runs. They didn't panic, however, as they got two back in the next inning after a Petmecky leadoff single, a Samantha Diaz double and a Myranda Bueno one-out two-RBI double. Still trailing with two outs in the sixth, Bueno got the rally going, reaching on a San Diego error. That was followed by a pinch-hit single by Kiley Harrison and an RBI single by Reina Bondi to score Bueno and tie the game at four. Jade Yadao-Valdez, who re-entered to run for Harrison, was able to score the go-ahead run on the next play thanks to another San Diego fielding error. Petmecky's seventh-inning shot - UNLV's first since Trejo hit one in the series opener at New Mexico on March 16 - gave the Rebels some breathing room and helped secure the win.

REBEL OF THE GAME: Petmecky came up big against the Toreros. Needing to keep the game close with UNLV down 4-3, the righty recorded three strikeouts and allowed just three hits in four scoreless frames. Whenever San Diego threatened, Petmecky and the Rebel defense found a way to shut them down. The senior put an exclamation point on the performance with a seventh-inning solo shot - her first home run of the season - to give the Rebels a big insurance run. For the day, she went 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored.

STAT(S) OF THE GAME: After scoring five runs in its last 34 innings and seven runs total in its last five games, UNLV scored six runs in five innings in the win against San Diego. Furthermore, the tying and go-ahead runs in the sixth both came with two outs.

QUOTABLE: Head coach Kristie Fox:

"I was proud of the way we came out and played with confidence and composure, even when we got behind. We faced three different pitchers and we were able to make adjustments at the plate and execute well. We always talk about enjoying what we do and playing loose, and I saw us make a conscious effort to do that today. It was a good road win and it's great way to start off the week as we get ready for San Diego State this weekend."

REBEL NOTES:
* The win ended a five-game losing skid for UNLV, which was its longest of the season
* It was UNLV's third comeback win of the season and marked just the second win after trailing thru four innings as the Rebels were 1-7 in those instances coming into the game
* Petmecky improved to 13-5 on the year, with the win snapping a three-game losing streak by the senior
* While the offense has seen some struggles over the last seven games, Trejo has had success, hitting at a .429 clip with nine hits, two RBI, two runs scored and one double
* After hitting .150 with runners in scoring position in the sweep at SJSU, the Rebels hit .300 in those situations against the Toreros
