LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV Athletics had 72 student-athletes named to the Spring 2018 Academic All-Mountain West Team, the conference announced. The Rebels have boasted at least 70 representatives on the spring list for 16 consecutive years.
A pair of programs reached double digits this year with 14 and 12 representatives from women's track & field and women's swimming & diving, respectively.
Baseball had nine of its own make the academic team, while softball and women's tennis had seven apiece. Men's basketball was next with a program-best six; men's golf and men's tennis had five each, women's basketball had four and women's golf had three.
If you include the four men's swimming & diving student-athletes tabbed to the 2018 Academic All-Western Athletic Conference Team, UNLV had a total of 76 individuals recognized for their efforts in the classroom this spring.
Overall, a MW-best 1,000 student-athletes were named to the Spring 2018 Academic All-MW Team.
To be eligible for selection to the Academic All-MW Team, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their team.
2017-18 ACADEMIC YEAR: The Scarlet & Gray had a total of 124 student-athletes earn Academic All-Mountain West Team honors this year. Moreover, UNLV had 11 more claim Academic All-WAC Team status.
