No. 23 Rebels In 5th Place After 2nd Round At Season Opener

Junior Justin Kim is tied for fifth individually.

OLYMPIA FIELDS, ILL. (UNLVRebels.com) - The No. 23 UNLV men's golf team shot a second-round 6-over-par 286 on Saturday at the Olympia Fields Country Club/Fighting Illini Invitational, which is being played at Olympia Fields CC (par 70, 7,353 yards – North Course).

The Rebels are in fifth place with a 36-hole score of 9-over 569. No. 1 Oklahoma State holds an eight-shot lead over the field at 9-under 551 after a second-round 2-under 278. No. 11 California is second at 1-under, No. 2 Alabama is third at 7-over and No. 20 USC is fourth at 8-over. The tournament features 10 of the nation's top-25 ranked teams.

Individually, California's Collin Morikawa has a one-shot lead at 7-under 133 after a second-round 4-under 66. Oklahoma State's Matthew Wolff is second at 6-under. UNLV is led by junior Justin Kim, who is tied for fifth at 2-under 138 after a 2-over 72 on Saturday.

STAT OF THE DAY: Only six golfers (out of 75) are under par for the tournament.

REBEL OF THE DAY: Sophomore Garrick Higgo had UNLV's best round of the day with an even-par 70.
