Football Dominates In SEC Country In Win At Vanderbilt

UNLV football (2-4) snapped a four-game losing skid with a dominating 34-10 win at Vanderbilt (1-5) Saturday to earn its first road victory at an SEC school and first over any Power Five conference foe since 2008.

Redshirt freshman quarterback Kenyon Oblad coolly led the Rebels to a 24-10 halftime lead and then a smothering UNLV defense did the rest, shutting out the Commodores in the second half. Oblad, making his second collegiate start, completed 11 of 16 attempts for 172 yards and two touchdowns while running back Chad Magyar netted 116 yards on 22 carries, including a score. Featured back Charles Williams picked up 69 tough-nosed yards and had an eight-yard scamper to the end zone that got his team on the board.

Defensively, UNLV was led by a pair of senior linebackers. Grad transfer Rayshad Jackson finished with nine tackles while Javin White had seven, including 2.5 TFL and an interception he returned 44 yards to set up a field goal.

STAT OF THE GAME:

UNLV won the first-down battle 22-12.

REBEL OF THE GAME:

The UNLV offensive line did not allow a quarterback sack and led the way to 206 rushing yards from multiple runners to allow the Rebels to control nearly the entire game, including winning the time of possession battle 37:27 to 22:33.

QUOTABLE:

"Really excited for that locker room. Those kids have worked extremely hard starting from spring ball. Things haven't started the way we wanted them to this year, but these guys show up every day and they have had a great attitude. Defensively, I thought we played as well as we have in the secondary in a long time. Offensively, we got back to our roots - that's getting downhill and running the football on people and it showed today."

-UNLV Head Coach Tony Sanchez
