FRIDAY'S PREVIEW...
Playing its only non-Saturday game of the season, UNLV (2-4/0-2) returns to Mountain West action with a trip to division-rival Fresno State (2-3/0-1) on Friday night when one side will pick up its first conference win of the fall ... The game will close out a stretch of four road dates in five outings for the Rebels who are 8-6-1 all-time on Fridays ... It will also be the second of three UNLV games appearing on CBS Sports Network in the month of October ... Last Saturday, UNLV earned its first road win over an SEC opponent with a 34-10 victory at Vanderbilt while Fresno State dropped its MW opener at Air Force, 43-24 ... The Rebels are looking to earn consecutive wins for the first time since weeks 2-3 of 2018 ... UNLV junior quarterback
Armani Rogers has not played in the last 10 quarters after getting knocked out of the game at Wyoming. That was the same game he became his school's career leader and moved into 10th place on the Mountain West all-time list for rushing yards by a quarterback with 1,549 ... Redshirt freshman signal-caller and local product
Kenyon Oblad has spelled Rogers ever since and now, after earning his first career victory, leads the team with 739 passing yards and five touchdowns ... Running back
Charles Williams comes into Friday ranked second in the MW and 24th in the nation with 99.7 yards per game, including a career-high 168 vs. Arkansas State in Week Two. The "Chuck Wagon" also sits 16th in the FBS with 6.64 yards per carry. In two previous games vs. his hometown Bulldogs, the Bullard High School grad averaged 137 yards on the ground, including 8.05 yards per attempt.Â
REBELS vs. BULLDOGS NOTES...Â
These programs have played each other as part of three different conferences (Big West, WAC and now MW) ... FS leads the overall series 14-7 but UNLV has won three of the last five meetings, including its most recent trip to Fresno in 2017, 26-16 ... FS lists two players who transferred home after signing with UNLV but never played for the Rebels: LB
David Tate Jr. and DL Leevel Tatum III ... UNLV OLB coach
Eric Brown played at FS in 2007 and was on the 'Dog coaching staff as a student assistant (2008-10) and then GA (2011-12) ... UNLV DC
Tim Skipper was a star LB for the Bulldogs from 1997-2000 and spent six seasons on their staff from 2006-11 ... Three FS staffers formerly worked or played for the Rebels: RB coach Jamie Christian and DB coach J.D. Williams were at UNLV in 2015-16 while GA Matt Lea played against the Bulldogs in UNLV's victory in 2016. Â
