LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV's top doubles team is still alive after Thursday's second day of action at the 2019 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Mountain Region Championships being held at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on campus.
 
Members from 20 western teams are facing off as individuals through Sunday on 12 courts each day in both singles and doubles.
 
Rebels En-Pei Huang and Izumi Asano, seeded seventh, teamed up to down Erandi Martinez and Thassane Abrahim of UTEP, 8-2, to advance to Friday's Round of 16.
 
In singles play, Huang won her first match of the day, 6-1, 6-3, over Pei Kuo of Weber State before falling to Utah's fifth-seeded Madison Tattina, 7-5, 4-6, 6-2.
 
Two round of doubles are up first on Friday followed by the quarterfinals of singles. The finals are set for Sunday. Admission to all matches is free of charge.
 
The ITA Regional Championships feature some of the top men's and women's players across the country. More than 8,000 student-athletes from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, Junior and Community Colleges compete across 85 ITA Regional Championships around the country. In Division I, regional doubles champions and regional singles champions and finalists qualify for the season-ending Oracle ITA National Fall Championships.
