LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV football (1-4/0-2) returned home for the first time in nearly a month Saturday night but fell 38-13 to No. 16/15 Boise State (5-0/2-0) at Sam Boyd Stadium.
Redshirt freshman quarterback
Kenyon Oblad out of Henderson's Liberty High School made his first collegiate start as regular starter
Armani Rogers continues to rebound from being knocked out of last week's game at Wyoming. Oblad, who graduated as the state's all-time leader in passing yards, threw two touchdown passes as part of his 262-yard night but was sacked five times and threw one interception.
The Broncos led 7-0 after the first quarter. The Rebels finally got on the board in the third when Oblad found
Mekhi Stevenson from 11 yards out for the receiver's fourth career score as a Rebel.
Senior
Darren Woods Jr. led the Rebels with 93 yards on five catches, including a 12-yard touchdown that was his first of the season but seventh of his career. Safety
Greg Francis, out of Las Vegas' Bishop Gorman High School, led all tacklers with a career-high 10 takedowns.
STAT OF THE GAME:
Oblad's 55 pass attempts (24 completions) were the fifth-most in UNLV history. The school record of 61 was set by fellow redshirt freshman Jon Denton vs. San Jose State in 1996.
REBEL OF THE GAME:
Punter
Hayes Hicken was a busy man against the Broncos. The senior punted a career-high 10 times for an average of 43.7 yards per attempt, including four that went at least 50 yards.
QUOTABLE:
"Disappointed with the outcome but there were some positives -- our guys played hard, we physically did not get pushed around in this game and that was a big deal. We've got to go back to work and get better and improve on offense."
-UNLV Head Coach Tony Sanchez
