LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV baseball junior
Bryson Stott has been named the DC Solar Outstanding Rebel of the Week, the school announced Wednesday.
The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletic Communications department.
Stott, a local product out of Desert Oasis High School, led the Rebels to a 2-1 mark to open the 2019 season against Seattle. From the top of the lineup, he hit .545 with six hits, four of which went for extra bases (two doubles, one triple and one home run), to go along with five RBI and two runs scored. Combining his six hits and five walks, he registered a staggering 1.182 slugging percentage and .688 on-base percentage.
After he recorded a double in game one of the series, he went 3-for-4 with one double, three walks, three RBI and one run scored in Saturday's come-from-behind, 11-10, win. In the rally, Stott scored the game-tying run in the ninth to send the game to extras and was intentionally walked in the 10th. For the game, he reached base safely in six of seven plate appearances. In Sunday's finale, he went 2-for-3 with one double and an inside-the-park home run in addition to three RBI and one run scored. The shortstop's RBI double in the fifth put UNLV ahead 3-2, while his two-run homer in the eighth added two insurance runs to bump the Rebel lead to three runs (8-5).
Stott and the Rebels wrap up their midweek series with UC Santa Barbara at 2 p.m. this afternoon at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.
