Rebels Climb Up Standings In Hawaii On Friday

UNLV men's golf shoots 11-under par during second round and is tied for fourth at John Burns Intercollegiate.

LIHUE, Hawaii (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's golf team shot a second-round 11-under-par 277 on Friday to move up eight spots in the standings at the 43rd Annual John A. Burns Intercollegiate, which is being played at Wailua Golf Course (par 72, 6,991 yards).

The Rebels are now in a tie for fourth, nine shots back of team-leading No. 11 Arizona State at 18-under 558. ASU shot a second-round 12-under. No. 2 Duke is second at 16-under, after a second-round-low 13-under, while No. 20 Texas A&M is third at 12-under. UNLV is tied with BYU at 9-under 567 to round out the top five.

BYU's Rhett Rasmussen has taken over the individual lead by a shot at 8-under 136 after a second-round-low tying 6-under 66. UC Santa Barbara's Zach Smith also shot 6-under on the day and is tied with UTEP's Aaron Terrazas for second at 7-under. 

REBELS OF THE DAY: Sophomore Jack Trent moved up 18 spots in the standings into a tie for 13th with a second-round 4-under 68, while senior Harry Hall moved into a tie for 19th with a 5-under 67. Hall moved up 38 spots in the standings. Trent is 4-under 140 for the tournament, while Hall is 3-under 141. Trent's second round consisted of five birdies and a bogey, while Hall had eight birdies, a bogey and a double bogey.

• This is UNLV's second tournament of the spring season.
• The Rebels are the three-time defending Mountain West champions. 
• Last year's team also finished third at the NCAA Regional in Columbus, Ohio, and placed in the top 20 at the NCAA Championship.
• Trent earned the Mountain West Freshman of the Year award last season, while Hall and Trent were all recognized as All-MW performers.
• Hall was named a Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar in July.
• UNLV has played in a NCAA-record 30 straight regionals.
