LAS VEGAS, Nev. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's tennis team improved to 8-0 at home this season with a 5-2 win over Illinois State Tuesday afternoon.
The Rebels snapped a two-match losing skid to improve to 9-3 overall while the Redbirds saw their six-match winning streak end in falling to 11-4.
The hosts opened play by taking the first two completed doubles matches for a 1-0 lead. In singles, UNLV earned four straight-set wins to clinch it while ISU won a pair of super-tiebreakers for its points.
REBEL OF THE MATCH: Eric Samuelsson teamed with
Clayton Alenik for a win at the top doubles position and then knocked off Diego Le Gal Perez, 6-3, 6-2, at the third spot of singles.
NET NOTES: The Rebels continue to show off their impressive depth as the bottom of the lineup is undefeated in dual matches. Sophomore Alenik's win made him 9-0 (13-5 overall) while freshman
Tom Ciszewski's victory bumped him to 8-0 (11-2 overall).
