The UNLV men's basketball program received a signed commitment from Moses Wood this past weekend, head coach T.J. Otzelberger announced Monday.
Wood, who will transfer from Tulane, plans to enroll at UNLV this summer. He will sit out the 2019-20 season because of NCAA transfer rules and will be eligible to compete for the Runnin' Rebels as a sophomore during the 2020-21 season.
The second commitment at UNLV under Otzelberger, Wood is a 6-foot-8-inch forward originally from Reno, Nevada. As a freshman at Tulane last season, he appeared in all of the Green Wave's 31 games and made two starts. He averaged 4.5 points and 3.1 rebounds per game, while shooting 37.3 percent from 3-point range and 78.4 percent from the free-throw line.
"Moses has a unique combination of size and skill that will make him very versatile," Otzelberger said. "His ability to play both inside and out really opens up the floor for his teammates. Moses is a tireless worker and a great person, and we look forward to his development as he will be an integral piece of our future."
Wood was a 2018 graduate of Galena High School in Reno and was rated a three-star recruit and the No. 5 prospect in the state of Nevada by ESPN.com in 2018. As a senior he averaged 17.8 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. He was a two-time All-Sierra League selection and was named North All-Region as a junior. He also was a member of the Las Vegas Prospects in AAU play.
Wood's father, David, played in the NBA and overseas for more than 15 years. He has two older brothers, Caleb and Josiah, who both have college basketball playing experience, and a younger brother, Isaac.
The Runnin' Rebels also signed 6-foot-5-inch guard
Jonah Antonio to a national letter of intent last week.
