Rebels Headed To NCAA-Record 31st Straight Regional

Men's golf earns No. 6 seed in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, play begins May 13.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's golf team will be the No. 6 seed at the NCAA's Myrtle Beach Regional, which begins Monday, May 13, the NCAA announced Wednesday. It will be hosted by Coastal Carolina University and Myrtle Beach Regional Sports Alliance at TPC Myrtle Beach in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina.

The Rebels found out their seed and where they would be playing during a Golf Channel Selection Show watch party with the Rebel Golf Foundation at Spanish Trail Country Club.

The invitation marks UNLV's 31st straight appearance in a NCAA Regional, which is the national record for most consecutive appearances.

"It is always great to go to the national championship," said UNLV head coach Dwaine Knight, who is in his 32nd year leading the Rebel program. "That is how we have built our program, to try to win national championships. We have been fortunate to have won one and have had some individual champions as well. It is always our goal at the beginning of every season to get back there and it has become harder and harder every year. We are going a long way from home again, but Myrtle Beach is a great golf center for the sport, so I know we will be on a great golf course and I think that will inspire us."

Six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted May 13-15. Thirteen teams and 10 individuals not on those teams will compete at each of three regionals, while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals.

NCAA team and individual titles will be decided May 24-29 at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The University of Arkansas, Fayetteville is the host institution for the 2019 championships. This year's men's golf championships will be broadcast for the sixth consecutive year by Golf Channel with more than 100 news and tournament hours planned again for the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Golf Championships.

UNLV is coming off a fourth-place finish at the Mountain West Championship. The Rebels have won five NCAA Regional titles with the last coming in 2017 in West Lafayette, Indiana. UNLV placed third last year at the regional in Columbus, Ohio, to advance to the NCAA finals. The Rebels are looking for their 22nd overall appearance at the national finals this year.
