LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV track & field team had six student-athletes named a total of seven times to the 2019 Mountain West Outdoor All-Conference Team.
All-MW honors are awarded to the top-three finishers in each event from the Conference championships, which were held May 8-11 at Veterans Memorial stadium in Clovis, California.
Jasmyne Graham earned All-MW recognition twice over with a runner-up finish in the 100m hurdles as well as a third-place showing in the long jump.
Avi'Tal Wilson-Perteete (800m/first place),
Stella Clemens (heptathlon/2nd),
Mackenna Howard (shot put/2nd),
Jonon Young (triple jump/second) and
Jada Hicks (100m hurdles/3rd) rounded out UNLV's contingent of honorees.
NATIONALLY SPEAKING: The Rebels have six student-athletes ranked in the top 40 of four events in the NCAA after Saturday's competition. Wilson-Perteete is first nationally in the 800m (2:02.41), while teammates Graham (20th) Hicks (26th) and
Taylor Pegram (32nd) are ranked in the 100m hurdles. Both Clemens and
Kaysha Love are 40th in the heptathlon and 100m, respectively.
REPEAT PERFORMERS: Five of the six Rebel student-athletes that were named to the All-MW Outdoor Team claimed All-MW Indoor Team status in February. Graham was also a two-time honoree (60m hurdles and long jump), while Hicks (60m hurdles), Howard (shot put), Wilson-Perteete (800m) and Young (triple jump).
REBEL NOTES:
- UNLV has finished in the top three at three straight MW Outdoor Championships, and that marks the best three-year display by the Rebels in the 20-year history of the conference. The Rebels have two third-place finishes (2017 and 2019) and one second (2018).
- Graham ran the fastest 100m hurdles' time (13.07) in UNLV program history en route to a silver medal finish.
NEXT TIME OUT: The Rebels will send some of their student-athletes to the NCAA West Preliminary in two weeks (May 23-25); however, the team will have to wait until the NCAA announces regional qualifiers next week.
