FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's golf team's season came to an end Sunday following the third round of the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship, which is being played at Blessings Golf Club (par 72, 7,550 yards).
The 30 participating teams vying for the national title were cut down to 15 Sunday. The Rebels shot a final-round 16-over 304 to place tied for 20th at 42-over. The top nine individuals not on advancing teams will continue to the fourth and final round of stroke play to determine an individual champion, while there will be another team cut after Monday's round to the eight teams that will advance to match play.
UNLV junior Justin Kim shot 3-over 75 during the third round and is in a tie for 29th. He is also tied with two others from non-advancing teams for the final individual spot in the fourth round. The trio of Kim, South Carolina's Will Miles and Georgia's Trent Phillips will face off in a sudden death playoff on Monday beginning at 9:15 a.m. CT.
No. 1 Oklahoma State increased its lead in the team standings to 25 shots after a third-round 2-under. The Cowboys' 54-hole total is 12-under 852. No. 5 Texas and No. 10 Stanford are both tied for second at 13-over. Oklahoma State's Matthew Wolff leads all individuals at 7-under, while teammate Austin Eckroat is second at 5-under.
UNLV senior Harry Hall finished his decorated collegiate career tying for 34th individually after shooting 6-over during the third round. The Rebels' best individual score on Sunday was turned in by sophomore Jack Trent with an even-par 72.
REBEL NOTES:
• This year marked UNLV's 31st straight appearance in a NCAA Regional, which is the national record for most consecutive appearances.
• The Rebels made their their 22nd overall appearance at the national finals as a team this year.
• This was UNLV's third straight trip to the national finals. The Rebels also placed in the top 20 last year.
• UNLV finished fourth at the Mountain West Championship this year, then placed fifth at the NCAA Myrtle Beach Regional.
• Senior Harry Hall was named the MW's Golfer of the Year this season and was a PING All-West Region selection, while Hall, sophomore Jack Trent and freshman David Rauch were all named All-MW.
• This season marks the 32nd at UNLV for Hall of Fame head coach Dwaine Knight.
