LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – Mike Bradeson, who was an assistant coach for UNLV football longer than anyone in history, passed away Tuesday in Reno.
Bradeson, who was serving as a community relations coordinator for the University of Nevada, Reno Athletics Department, coached the Rebel defense for 14 seasons under three different head coaches from 1996-2009.
The former Boise State football player and 1981 graduate of the school joined Jeff Horton's UNLV staff in 1996, was elevated to defensive coordinator for John Robinson in 2000 and then oversaw the defensive backs under Mike Sanford starting in 2005 before returning to the northern part of the state in 2010.
Overall, Bradeson worked a combined three decades for the Silver State's two collegiate football programs.
While in Las Vegas, Bradeson oversaw the development of future NFL defensive backs Kevin Thomas, Sam Brandon and Eric Wright as well as two-time All-American Jamaal Brimmer.
He is survived by his wife, April, and son, Drew.
