Wilson-Perteete Runs To Gold In Mexico

UNLV track & field’s Avi’Tal Wilson-Perteete clocked a time of 2:05.70 to win the U23 800m for the Red, White & Blue at the NACAC Championships Saturday.

QUERETARO, Mexico (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV track & field program's Avi'Tal Wilson-Perteete claimed gold, while representing the Red, White & Blue, in the U23 800m at the NACAC U18 & U23 Championships Saturday. Wilson-Perteete and Nia Akins (Penn) gave the United States a 1-2 finish in the event held at Queretaro 2000 INDEREQ Stadium, which is nearly 6,000 feet above sea level.
 
Wilson-Perteete, a rising junior from Oakland, California, won the 800m title in a time of 2:05.70, while Akins was second (silver) in 2:07.11. Canada's Erinn Stenman-Fahey (Iowa State) took third (bronze) in 2:11.58.
 
WILSON-PERTEETE SUMMARY:
- Three-time Mountain West 800m champion: 2018 and '19 Outdoor; 2019 Indoor.
- Three-time USTFCCCA All-American: 2019 Outdoor First Team; 2018 Indoor and Outdoor Second Team.
- Time of 2:02.41 – Bryan Clay Invitational (April) – during the 2019 Outdoor season was the fastest by an NCAA Div. I student-athlete.
- Ranks first overall UNLV's all-time performance list in the indoor 800m (2:04.71) and second in the outdoor 800m (2:01.14).
