FAIRVIEW, Ore. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV cross country team finished fourth overall at Portland State's Viking Rust Buster Saturday. The Rebels ran the 4K, which was held at Blue Lake Park, in a total team time of 1:15.31 for a score of 104 points.
UNLV was led by juniors
Avi'Tal Wilson-Perteete (21st/14:48.3),
Emma Wahlenmaier (24th/14:49.5) and
Elisa Rovere (30th/14:58.7). MacKenzie Moss (37th/15:15.2) and
Grace Moore (44th/15:39.5) were the fourth and fifth Rebels to cross the finish line, scoring points for the Scarlet & Gray.
Rebecca Green (55th/16:05.8),
Rebecca Fisher (61st/16:24.7) and
Sarrah Springer (62nd/16:30.7) also represented the Scarlet & Gray at the meet held outside of Portland.
Oregon State won the team title, finishing first overall (15 points/1:37.21), while Portland State (66/1:44.18) edged out Rose City rival Portland (69/1:43.36) for second place by merely three points.
QUOTABLE: "There was only a 51-second pack differential between our No. 1 and No. 5 runners today, and that's the best packing-up this team has ever accomplished," said cross country coach
Angelina Ramos. "Avi, Elisa and Emma are roommates and the skillset they built last year towards working together through a race were evident today. Grace's race impressed me the most as a mental battle win – finishing with a feeling that she left it all out on the course and didn't hold back. As a group, they're in a good place eight weeks out from the Mountain West Championships and 10 weeks from NCAA Regionals."
NEXT UP: UNLV returns to action on Sept. 28 at Sacramento State's Capital Cross Challenge in the Golden State's capitol city.
