LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – Host UNLV picked up one first round victory in singles during the opening day at the elite Freeman Memorial Championships being held at the Fertitta Tennis Complex Friday.
 
Individual competitors from No. 1 Stanford, No. 2 North Carolina, No. 6 Pepperdine and No. 11 Oklahoma State are joining the Rebels this weekend for the event.
 
En-Pei Huang opened her semester with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Sophia Patel of UNC before later falling in the Round of 16 to fifth-seeded and 49th-ranked Janice Shin of Stanford, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.
 
Huang and doubles partner Izumi Asano enjoyed a first round bye and will play in the second round of doubles Saturday when quarterfinal action starts at 10 a.m. Admission to all matches is free of charge.
