Softball's Andy Jarvis Promoted To Associate Head Coach

With Jarvis as assistant coach during the past two seasons, the Rebels have seen success they hadn't experienced in a decade.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Andy Jarvis has been promoted to Associate Head Coach for the UNLV softball program, head coach Kristie Fox announced Friday.

In two seasons with Jarvis as assistant coach for the Rebels (2018, 2019), the team has seen success it hadn't experienced in a decade.

Working alongside Fox, the pair led UNLV to a 33-20 record and a National Invitational Softball Championship (NISC) regional final appearance in their first season in Las Vegas, then topped that last season with a 36-14 record, just missing out on its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2009 as one of the selection committee's first four teams out.

"Andy is a proven recruiter and has played a major role in our success as a program," Fox said. "He has continued to take on more responsibility and has thrived with the areas he has been in charge of. Our team's hitting, fielding, RPI and recruiting class ranking have all jumped under his leadership. We are excited about his promotion, which will allow him to remain a Rebel and to continue to help us build our program."

The 36 wins in 2019 were the Rebels' most since the 2007 season and the program's back-to-back 30 victories also marked a first since 2009 and 2010. In both of the last two years, UNLV has recorded sub-3.00 ERAs, marking the first time since 1996 and 1997. In addition, after setting program marks for fewest errors and best fielding percentage in 2018, UNLV topped that again, breaking both marks in 2019.

Jarvis came to UNLV with Fox from the University of Texas-Arlington, where he was an assistant from 2013-16 before serving as associate head coach in 2017. The Renton, Washington, native played baseball at Oregon State, then played professionally at the minor league level. He also spent five seasons as a volunteer assistant baseball coach at Texas Tech.
