LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Â The UNLV women's basketball team, originally scheduled to play at Utah Valley this Saturday, will now host the second-ranked Stanford Cardinal, the athletics department announced Friday. The game will be played at 2 pm in the Thomas & Mack Center.Â
Because of the region's COVID-19 situation, fans are not allowed to attend. The game will be live streamed on the Mountain West Network while the radio broadcast link will be available on UNLVRebels.com as well.
Saturday's game will be a reunion for new Lady Rebel head coach Lindy La Rocque. She played on four Final Four teams at Stanford from 2009-12, before then returning as assistant coach with the Cardinal from 2017-20 prior to taking over the UNLV program in March.
Stanford will be the highest ranked team the Lady Rebels have faced since a 95-64 loss to No. 2 Texas on Dec. 8, 1984 in the championship game of the UNLV/7-Up Desert Classic. It will also mark the highest ranked team to play on the UNLV campus since then.
The contest with Utah Valley was canceled due to a COVID-19 positive test in the Wolverines program which caused them to pause for a 14-day period.Â
Following the Stanford game, UNLV will have a week off before opening Mountain West play on Saturday, Dec. 12 against Wyoming in the Cox Pavilion.
