Hamilton Named Mountain West Men's Basketball Player Of The Week

Sophomore guard earns second such honor of the season after leading Runnin' Rebels to a 2-0 week, including a win at No. 4 San Diego State.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV sophomore Bryce Hamilton was named Mountain West Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. It is his second such honor of the season and third for a Runnin' Rebel player this year.

Originally from Pasadena, California, the 6-foot-4-inch guard led the Runnin' Rebels to a 2-0 record last week with a blowout home win over Colorado State, 80-56, on Wednesday, and UNLV's best true road win in 29 years over previously unbeaten and No. 4 San Diego State, 66-63, on Saturday.
Hamilton averaged a double-double over the two games with a team highs of 18.0 points per game and 10.0 rebounds per game. He shot 55.2 percent from the floor (16 of 29), including 57.1 percent on 3-pointers (4 of 7). He also tallied four assists and two steals during the week, while playing an average of 33.0 minutes per contest.

Against CSU, Hamilton recorded his third double-double of the season with game highs of 25 points and 10 rebounds. He was 11 of 18 from the field, including 3 of 4 on 3-pointers. The 24-point win was UNLV's largest margin of victory of the season. The Runnin' Rebels led the Rams by as many as 35 points, avenging their loss in Fort Collins from earlier in the season.

Against the Aztecs, Hamilton recorded his second straight double-double and fourth of the season with 11 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. He was 5 of 11 from the field, also recording two assists and two steals. He has extended his streak of consecutive games with 10 or more points to 16 contests.

In UNLV handing SDSU its first loss of the season after a 26-game win streak, it also was the highest ranked opponent that UNLV has defeated on the road since beating No. 2 Arkansas in 1991. Additionally, it was the highest-ranked team that UNLV has defeated overall since beating No. 3 Arizona at the Thomas & Mack Center on Dec. 23, 2014.

The win also snapped a six-game losing streak for UNLV at Viejas Arena. UNLV earned a regular-season split with SDSU after the Aztecs won the season's earlier meeting in Las Vegas, 71-67.
