Rebels 14th After Second Round At Southern Highlands Collegiate

Senior Justin Kim shot the low second round of all Rebel players with 3-under 69 on Monday at tournament that includes each of the top-five ranked teams in the country.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's golf team shot a second-round-low 5-under 283 on Monday at the Southern Highlands Collegiate, which is being played at Southern Highlands Golf Club (par 72, 7,374 yards).

The public is encouraged to attend the tournament and admission is free for this prestigious event that annually lures the country's best college golf teams and each year ranks at or near the top of the collegiate golf schedule in terms of strength of field. This year's event includes each of the nation's top-five ranked teams and nine of the top 25.


Southern California increased its lead to nine shots after also shooting 5-under during the second round. The Trojans' 36-hole score is 6-under 570. No. 4 Texas is in second at 3-over, followed by No. 22 Florida and No. 7 Texas Tech in a tie for third at 7-over. UCLA rounds out the top five at 10-over. The Rebels are in 14th place at the 15-team event with a score of 26-over 602.

Individually, Southern California's Yuxin Lin leads by five shots at 10-under 134 after a second-round 5-under 67. Florida's Ricky Castillo is second at 5-under, followed by SMU's Mac Meissner in third at 4-under.

UNLV's best individual round of the day was turned in by senior Justin Kim. He shot a second-round 3-under 69 and is tied for 50th at 8-over. Rebel freshman Jack Kozlowski, who is playing as an individual, is the top Rebel player as he is tied for 27th at 4-over. Defending tournament champion junior Jack Trent and freshman Falko Hanisch are tied for 35th at 5-over.

There are a total of 84 individuals competing.

PGA TOUR EXEMPTION: The tournament's individual champion will receive an exemption into the PGA Tour's Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, which will take place Oct. 8-11 at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas.


REBEL NOTES:
• UNLV lost Mountain West Golfer of the Year and All-America Scholar Harry Hall to graduation following last season. He competed at the prestigious Walker Cup in September, becoming just the third Rebel in program history to be invited. 
• The Rebels have welcomed four new players to this year's roster.
• Last year's team appeared in a NCAA-record 31st straight regional and advanced to the national finals where it finished in the top 20.
• Trent and sophomore David Rauch are UNLV's returning All-Mountain West performers. Trent is on the 2020 Ben Hogan Award Watch List.
• Kim, who turned in UNLV's best individual finish at the NCAA Finals last season, was also named an All-America Scholar.
• This year marks head coach Dwaine Knight's 33rd season leading the Rebel program.
