LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - They say not all heroes wear capes. True. Some wear lab coats, scrubs and protective face masks.
In these unprecedented times, they are fighting along the front lines to win the battle to make us safe. We cheer them on, give our thanks and honor their efforts. Meet one of those heroes now.
Dr. Angelica Honsberg is an assistant professor in the UNLV School of Medicine Department of Internal Medicine and is UNLV Athletics' Hero of the Week (April. 15).
Originally from Wilmington, Delaware, she leads the UNLV SOM Division of Pulmonary-Critical Care. Dr. Honsberg and her team have been the lead physicians caring for the sickest COVID-19 patients at University Medical Center of Southern Nevada.
"Dr. Honsberg has been a happy medical warrior, leading the UNLV Medicine team that cares for the sickest patients in the Intensive Care Unit at UMC," said Dr. Michael Gardner, Vice Dean of Clinical Affairs and UNLV Medicine President/CEO. "She has faced this daunting task with professionalism and good humor. She is an example to our students, residents, fellows and fellow faculty of how a great doctor faces a health crisis - head on without wavering."
Dr. Honsberg has over 20 years of experience in Pulmonary/Critical Care medicine and specializes in the management of pulmonary diseases and the care of critically ill patients. She has been the Adult Director for the Cystic Fibrosis Center of Southern Nevada for the past 10 years. Prior to joining UNLV in 2016, Dr. Honsberg worked for the VA Southern Nevada Healthcare system.
Dr. Honsberg, thank you for your efforts. We are honored to recognize you as the UNLV Athletics' Hero of the Week.
