LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV has a player still alive in both flights of singles after Friday's action at the 2021 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Mountain Region Women's Championships being held at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on campus.
 
In the top flight, fourth-seeded Molly Helgesson won her quarterfinal match, 6-1, 6-3, over 14th-seeded Maria Oreshkina of Wyoming to advance to Saturday's semifinal round vs. top-seeded Gina Dittmann of NAU. In the second flight, Ciny Hu rallied past Bhakti Shah of Boise State, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1, to move on to face Mila Stanjojevic of Colorado.
 
Things did not go as well in doubles play for the hosts on Friday, however, as all four duos lost either in the Round of 16 or quarterfinals.
 
Members from 20 western teams are facing off on 12 courts in both singles and doubles. Action starts at 9:00 a.m. PT and the finals are set for Sunday. Admission to all matches is free of charge.
 
The ITA Regional Championships feature some of the top men's and women's players across the country. More 8,000 student-athletes from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, Junior and Community Colleges compete across 85 ITA Regional Championships around the country. In Division I, regional doubles champions and regional singles champions and finalists qualify for the season-ending ITA National Fall Championships.
