LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV's
Molly Helgesson will play for the main draw singles championship after advancing Saturday at 2021 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Mountain Region Women's Championships being held at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on campus.
Seeded fourth, Helgesson easily ousted top-seeded Gina Dittmann of NAU, 6-1, 6-3. On Sunday she will face second-seeded Anna Riedmiller of Denver, who got by third-seeded Linda Huang of Utah, 7-6, 6-0, in the other semifinal.
Helgesson, a native of Falkenberg, Sweden, is a transfer from St. Leo College in Florida. The title match is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. Admission to all matches is free of charge.
The ITA Regional Championships feature some of the top men's and women's players across the country. More 8,000 student-athletes from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, Junior and Community Colleges compete across 85 ITA Regional Championships around the country. In Division I, regional doubles champions and regional singles champions and finalists qualify for the season-ending ITA National Fall Championships.
