Molly Helgesson finally found an opponent she couldn't sweep this week, falling in Sunday's singles title match at 2021 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Mountain Region Women's Championships at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on campus.
Seeded fourth, Helgesson did not lose even as much as a set in five matches at this event but was downed 6-2, 6-1 by Denver's second-seeded Anna Riedmiller.
A native of Falkenberg, Sweden, Helgesson is a transfer from St. Leo College in Florida. As one of two finalists, however, she has still earned a spot in the ITA National Fall Championships set for November 4-7 at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego.
In the doubles final, Radka Buzkova and Matea Mihaljevic of Colorado State downed teammates Sarka Richterova and Somer Dalla-Bona, 6-2, 6-4.
The ITA Regional Championships feature some of the top men's and women's players across the country. More 8,000 student-athletes from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, Junior and Community Colleges compete across 85 ITA Regional Championships around the country.
