BOULDER CREEK, NV (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's golf team finished the opening round of The Clash at Boulder Creek in sixth place after carding a 9-over 297 as a team Sunday at Boulder Creek Golf Club. The three-day tournament is hosted by Northern Arizona.
Sophomore
Madeleine Laux, playing as an individual, turned in a career-low 4-under 68 in round one to sit atop the leaderboard heading into round two. Laux sank five birdies in the round against just one bogey. Senior
Veronica Joels was the Rebels' next highest performer, shooting her best round of the fall at 2-under 70 to end the day in a tie for fourth. Freshman
Sydney Bryan was the next highest on the leaderboard, coming in at a tie for 25th at 2-over, followed by freshman
Hina Matsui in a tie for 44th at 4-over, junior
Nicole Lorup in a tie for 53rd at 5-over and freshman
Kendall Todd in a tie for 64th at 6-over.
In addition to Laux, UNLV had three other Rebels playing as individuals, with freshman
McKenzi Hall shooting a 4-over to join Matsui in a tie for 44th, sophomore
Gracie Olkowski in a tie for 84th at 8-over and junior
Aliyah Williams in a tie for 90th at 9-over
San Francisco holds the top team spot after the first 18 holes at 2-under, followed by Utah Valley in second at 5-over and Fresno State and UC Riverside tied for third at 5-over. Seattle U rounded out the top-five at 6-over. Individually, San Fran's Annika Borrelli and Utah Valley's Victoria Estrada are tied for second behind Laux, each shooting a 3-under 69 in round one.
UP NEXT: The second round tees off Monday morning with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.

• The Rebels won the 2021 Dale McNamara Invitational Oct 11-12 in Tulsa, Oklahoma by 11 strokes, marking first tournament win since 2019 (Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown); Three Rebels finished in the top six with freshman
Sydney Bryan winning her first collegiate tournament at 4-under 212
