LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV volleyball's Mariena Hayden was named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, the league announced Monday. It marks the eighth such honor of her career.
It also is the sixth individual weekly award for the Rebels this season as Chloe Thomas has been named Freshman of the Week three times and Paris Oliveira was a Defensive Player of the Week honoree. Hayden's previous honor came on October 4.
A fifth-year senior outside hitter from Belle Plaine, Minnesota, Hayden recorded a team-high 45 kills in two matches last week (5.63 kills/set). She had only eight errors for a hitting percentage of .425 and tallied a team-high nine service aces (1.13 aces/set).
In the five-set home win over Wyoming last Thursday, Hayden turned in a career-high 30 kills with just four errors to hit .491 for the match. She also contributed a season-high seven service aces. On Saturday at CSU, Hayden had a match-high 15 kills with just four errors to hit .324.
NEXT FOR THE REBELS: UNLV will be home this week for two matches at the Cox Pavilion: vs. Boise State on Thursday, October 28 at 6:30 p.m. and against Utah State on Saturday, October 30 at 1 p.m. The match against the Broncos will be Polynesian Night/International Student Night and vs. the Aggies will be a Halloween theme.
