LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's soccer program signed 11 new Rebels for Fall 2022, head coach Jenny Ruiz-Williams announced Friday.
The class is made up of three Las Vegas locals - Kylie Camp, Michelle Madrid and Gianna Newby - a Reno signee in Cydonah Blackman, a pair of Utah signees - Savannah Nichols and Ellie Scholer - and a pair from Clovis, California - Cadence Whitley and Mallie Ramirez. The class also includes an Arizona native - Sammy Peebles - a Minnesota native in Sydney Kubes and a Texas signee in McKenna Jenkins.
"I am fired up for this incoming class," said Ruiz-Williams. "Our staff worked relentlessly to bring in these spectacular young women that will no doubt impact our REBEL family immediately. They are a high energy, high character and high output group."Â

Cydonah Blackman, Forward, Reno, NV
Blackman, a Reno native, is a three-sport athlete at Robert McQueen High School, including a four-year soccer letterwinner for the Lancers. Over four seasons, the forward helped her prep squad to a 34-20-7 record, scoring 49 goals with 21 assists during her career. Blackman earned all-league honors three times, picking up a first team all-region honor twice and a second team all-league selection.She has incredible pace and finds ways to finish around goal whether flying in with her head or driving in a set piece. She plans on majoring in criminal justice at UNLV.

Kylie Camp, Forward, Henderson, NV
Camp, one of three Las Vegas Valley signees, is scheduled to graduate from Green Valley High School this spring. The forward is a four-year varsity letterwinner at GVHS and just completed her senior campaign with the Gators. As a sophomore in 2019, Camp helped the Gators go 17-3-2 and reach the semifinals for the state championship. She combined for 26 goals and 23 assists in the two seasons before 2020 was canceled due to Covid and had five goals and two assists this fall. Camp plays club soccer with Heat FC, and she has helped them reach the ECNL playoffs the past two seasons. She is a versatile player that can play multiple positions. She plays with fire and an engine that never stops. Camp is undecided on her major.Â

McKenna Jenkins, Midfielder, Frisco, TX
Jenkins is Ruiz-Williams' first signee from Texas. The Frisco, Texas native attends Justin Wakeland High School, where she is a four-year letterwinner for the Wolverines. The midfielder has helped the Wolverines go 50-11-8 in three seasons, including a 20-3-3 record this fall to reach the 2021 Texas 5A State finalists. During the most recent 20-21 campaign, Jenkins scored 18 goals to go along with 10 assists, earning several accolades, including first team all-state and all-district honors. She was also named to the 2021 United Soccer Coaches All-Region and All-State team. Jenkins was twice named her team's MVP and has collected 30 goals and 30 assists during her prep career. She plays club soccer with Solar SC. Jenkins is incredible in the air, technical, strong and loves to get into the final third to finish. She plans on majoring in kinesiology.

Sydney Kubes, Defender, Lino Lakes, MN
Kubes will be Ruiz-Williams' second signee out of Minnesota. The four-year varsity starter at Centennial High School helped the Cougars go 64-9 over her career, which includes qualifying for the state tournament three out of four years. One of two defenders in the class, Kubes was part of a defense that allowed just 28 goals over 73 games and scored 15 goals herself. The three-time all-conference selection was also her team's MVP in 2020, was honored to the state all-tournament team in 2019 and was an all-state selection in 2021.The two-sport athlete also played basketball all four seasons and was an all-conference honoree on the court as well. Kubes has an electric energy that makes others around her better. She plans on majoring in pre-med at UNLV.Â

Savannah Nichols, Forward, Cedar Hills, UT
Nichols, one of two Utah signees, is a forward from Cedar Hills. She is a three-year starter in soccer at Lone Peak High School where she's helped the Knights go 25-13-2 in her three seasons. In 2021, Nichols and the Knights went 14-3 and captured a regional championship, while Nichols registered five goals during the campaign, including the game-winner in the regional championship. Nichols is incredibly composed on the ball and has a tireless work ethic on the field. She has served as the team captain for her club team, Northern Peaks, for the last four years and plans on majoring in kinesiology at UNLV.

Michelle Madrid, Midfielder, Las Vegas, NV
Ruiz-Williams adds a second Madrid in the last two seasons as Michelle will join her older sister Jena at UNLV next fall. The midfielder from Bishop Gorman High School is a four-year starter for the Gaels, helping them capture a Nevada Championship as a freshman in 2018-19 after an undefeated 28-0 season. In all the Gaels have gone 57-14-2 during her career and Madrid has accounted for 32 goals and 30 assists (not including covid-shortened 2020). Madrid has incredible vision on the ball to compliment her competitive drive. She plays club soccer with the Las Vegas Soccer Association, where she was a four-time Nevada State and Regional Champion and a 2017 National Champion. The Madrid's are keeping it in the family as Jena and Michelle's father Michael played soccer at UNLV. She is undecided on her major at UNLV.

Gianna Newby, Defender, Las Vegas, NV
Newby, the third Las Vegas native and second defender in the class, attends Rancho High School in Las Vegas. The center back helped the Rams to a 2018 conference championship and was recently named to the 2020-21 all-conference second team. Newby has played club soccer with Heat FC the last five years in the ECNL. She anchors a solid backline for the Heat, competing weekly against the top talent in the southwest region. As a center back she performs on a team that consistently finishes in the top half of a highly competitive conference. Newby is a ball winner who has excellent distribution and an incredible physical presence on the field. She is undecided on her major at UNLV.

Samantha Peebles, Goalkeeper, Tucson, Arizona
Peebles will come to UNLV from Arizona as one of two goalkeepers in the class. Peebles attends Sabino High School in Tucson, Arizona and is a three-year varsity letterwinner in soccer and a four-year varsity letterwinner in track and field. She started her career at Catalina Foothills High School and helped them finish second in the state, then transferred to Sabino and helped the Sabercats take fourth at state as a junior last year. Peebles is a two-time state finisher in the long jump and helped her team place second at state in the spring. She plays club soccer with FC Tucson and captured a GA regional title with her team. Peebles is a gifted athlete with an extremely high ceiling. She plans on majoring in special education.

Mallie Ramirez, Forward/Midfielder, Clovis, CA
Ramirez, originally from the Philippines, is one of two Rebel signees from Clovis, California in the class. The forward/midfielder attends Clovis North High School, where the Broncos are currently 13-2-2 overall and rank third in the state. Ramirez has played club soccer with Clovis Crossfire the past seven years and has reached the finals in multiple top national club tournaments with her team. Ramirez is an attacking threat that can easily move into multiple positions on the forward or midfield lines. She is a technical player that can dart into space. She plans on majoring in kinesiology at UNLV.

Ellie Scholer, Goalkeeper, West Haven, Utah
Scholer, the second goalkeeper of the class and second Utah native, started her prep career at Bonneville High School before switching to Roy High School in Washington Terrace, Utah. The 5'10 keeper helped the Lakers to back-to-back regional championships with an 11-3 record, while she recorded 11 games with a shutout. Scholar plays club soccer with LaRoca DA/ECNL, a club with a reputation for developing very high level players. There she earned a state championship four times. Scholer is known for her high technical ability and composure in building out of the back. She plans on majoring in psychology at UNLV.

Cadence Whitley, Forward, Clovis, CA
Whitley, a forward from Clovis, California, is a prep teammate of Mallie Ramirez at Clovis North High School. Whitley and Ramirez teamed up to help the Broncos to district championship this fall and qualify for the state championship. Whitely has played club soccer with Clovis Crossfire the past 10 years and was a national finalist twice. She possesses elite pace and also competed in track at the prep level. Whitley is an explosive player that will impact in multiple positions. She has a massive heart that can be seen on and off the field. She is currently undecided on major at UNLV.Â
