FRIDAY'S PREVIEW...
Playing its school-record sixth non-Saturday game of the season, UNLV (2-9/2-5) closes the campaign at Air Force (8-3/5-2) on a holiday Friday afternoon ... UNLV's first 11 opponents combine for a current mark of 79-43. Earlier this season UNLV faced three straight ranked teams for the first time in history and then a fourth last week to make it the most ranked opponents for the Rebels since facing five in 2010. That note does not include undefeated No. 15 UTSA, which was unranked when UNLV lost by a touchdown in San Antonio last month ... The Rebels are coming off suffering their school-record sixth one-score loss of the season (previous record was five in 2012), 28-20, to San Diego State while the Falcons prevailed in triple-OT at UNR, 41-39 ... The Rebels are playing their fourth Friday game this fall and bring in an all-time record of 8-11-1 on that day ... Currently standing 18th in the nation with 102.2 YPG,
Charles Williams comes in with the most career net rushing yards in the FBS (4,064) among all current players. The Chuck Wagon recently passed Tim Cornett (2010-13) to become UNLV's career rushing king and is just the fourth Mountain West player to reach the 4,000-yard rushing mark. ... This game will decide the MW regular-season rushing title as AFA's Brad Roberts currently leads Williams in net yards 1,177 to 1,124. Williams sits No. 1 in rushing TDs with 13 compared to Roberts' 11 ... UNLV has nine interceptions this season after picking off just two as a team during the abbreviated 2020 season.Â
REBELS vs. FALCONS NOTES...Â
In a series that dates back to 1981, Air Force leads 16-6 and has won the last three ... These teams have played on a Friday twice before with host UNLV taking a 42-39 season-ending thriller in 2006, to break a 10-game losing skid, and AFA winning the most recent meeting in 2018, 41-35 ... Because of divisional scheduling in the MW, this marks just the second trip to the Academy for the Rebels in the last eight years ... In its last visit in 2017, UNLV bolted to a 27-0 lead before losing 34-30 ... In this high-flying series the winning team has averaged 38 points and never scored less than 24 ... AFA is the only service academy team UNLV has ever met on the football field but UNLV does have a home-and-home scheduled with Army in 2024 and '28.
