LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – Multiple members of the UNLV men's team took part in last week's Las Vegas Tennis Open, gaining valuable experience from the unusual circumstances of hosting a professional tournament on their own home courts.
A trio of current Rebels received singles wildcard entries while four more UNLV players took part in doubles play. That included
Milos Dabic and
Zac Brodney falling 6-4, 6-2 to eventual doubles champions Max Schnur (ranked 128 in the world) and William Blumberg (ranked 225).
While none of the collegians advanced past the first round, longtime UNLV head coach
Owen Hambrook said competing in the event can only make his team better when it kicks off its dual-match season in January.
"It was a great opportunity for the majority of the team to play in the ATP Challenger last week," said Hambrook. "Everyone who participated gained a lot of experience and got to see what it takes to compete at the next level.
Las Vegas is a favorite stop on the ATP Challenger Tour and we are fortunate to host it right here each fall at the Fertitta Tennis Complex."
