Johnson Named Raising Cane's Outstanding Rebel of the Week

The junior receives the honor after guiding the Lady Rebels to a 3-1 week

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV women's basketball junior Nia Johnson was named the Raising Cane's Outstanding Rebel of the Week, the school announced Wednesday.
The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition as voted on by the UNLV Athletics' Strategic Communications department.

Johnson, a native of Sacramento, California, led the Lady Rebels to a 3-1 week with a scoring average just under 20 points per game. A 5-8 guard, Johnson reeled off a career-high 28 points in UNLV's 62-57 home victory over UNR on Jan. 30 after erupting for 15 points in the third quarter. During her scoring tear versus the Wolf Pack, she knocked down six three-pointers. Just two days later in the Mountain West series finale versus UNR, Johnson matched her new career high in scoring and drained six three-pointers for the second straight contest. She's the only player in the MW this season to score 28 points in back-to-games.

Prior to her career efforts, Johnson posted a pair of double-figure scoring games for the Scarlet and Gray on the road against Utah State, scoring 13 on Jan. 25 and adding 10 points two days later to sweep the MW conference series over the Aggies. She finished the week averaging 19.8 points per game, shot 47.3 percent (26-of-55) from the floor, and 14-of-27 from three-point range (51.9 percent). In addition, Johnson tallied 16 rebounds, 10 assists, four steals and a block.
