PROVO, Utah (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV track & field had three of its own finish in the top five in both the long jump and triple jump at the BYU Cougar Collegiate Indoor II Invitational Friday. The Rebels were paced by a pair of wins in both jump events by
Jonon Young, while
Jazlynn Shearer and
Jaylen Walker followed closely behind.
Young claimed the Invitational's long jump title with a mark of 20-3 (6.17m), which was not only a personal-best, but it is tied for the fifth-best measurement in the program's all-time indoor performance list. She won the triple jump with a distance of 41-9.50 (12.74m).
Shearer took second in the triple jump (41-8/12.70m) and third in the long jump (19-4.74/5.91m).
Walker posted a pair of personal-bests marks en route to top-five showings in both jump events. She was third overall in the triple jump (39-4.50/12.00m) and fifth in the long jump (18-7.25/5.67m).
A pair of Rebels made their collegiate debuts for the Scarlet & Gray Thursday in the pentathlon, as
Rachel Seeley and
Julia Nixon finished seventh and ninth, respectively, in the event consisting of five events. Seeley recorded 2913 points to Nixon's 2860.
SATURDAY'S SCHEDULE: The Rebels conclude their stay in the Beehive State Saturday with a devoted to running events. UNLV will open the day with Shearer,
Rosalie Breems,
Jada Hicks and
Taylor Shorter competing in the 60m hurdles at 10:15 am MT (9:15 am PT).
Azaria Hill,
Tianna Randle and Nami Wilson will follow in the 60m.
Agnes Mansaray, Amari Prude and
Alexis Surrell will run in the 400m, while
Avi'Tal Wilson-Perteete makes her season debut in the 800m.
