TUCSON, AZ (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's golf team carded a 6-over 294 Saturday in round two of the Mountain View Invitational at The Preserve Golf Club in Tucson to sit in seventh place at 3-over 579 heading into Sunday's final round.
Senior
Samantha Fuller, who shot a 3-under 69 in round one Friday to sit tied for eighth, moved up a spot into a tie for seventh after shooting a 1-under 71 Saturday. The Surrey, England native has now shot par or better in eight of the 11 rounds she's played this spring.
After an even round on Friday, junior
Veronica Joels carded a 1-over Saturday to sit in a tie for 22nd with the same score, while sophomore
Elina Saksa ended the day with a second straight round of 73 to sit tied for 25th at 2-over 146. Freshman
Madeleine Laux is tied for 40th at 6-over 150 with fellow freshman
Gracie Olkowski in a tie for 62nd at 12-over 156.
After an impressive 16-under in round one, Texas had a more mild day with a 2-under 286 as a team, but still sits atop the leaderboard with a seven-shot lead at 18-under. Iowa State is in second at 11-under, followed by Oklahoma State in third on the Cyclones heels at 10-under, and Houston in fourth right behind the Cowboys at 9-under. Baylor and North Texas round out the top five in a tie for fifth at 2-over.
Oklahoma State's Maja Stark shot up to the top of the leaderboard at 8-under after her 5-under 67 Saturday, with Houston's Zoe Slaughter one shot behind Stark in second at seven-under. Stark's teammate Rina Tatematsu and Texas' Kaitlyn Papp are tied for third at 6-under, followed by Houston's Karen Fredgaard and San Jose State's Kajsa Arwefjall tied for fifth at 5-under.
NEXT FOR THE REBELS: The Rebels will tee off for the third and final round at 8:15 a.m. on Sunday morning.
