ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's tennis team could not recover from losing the doubles point and fell 4-0 to New Mexico in Friday afternoon's battle between two teams that came in tied for first place in the Mountain West.
Playing indoors because of high winds, the Rebels fell to 8-10 overall and 2-1 in league play while the Lobos improved to 5-8 and 3-0 in the MW.
The teams began by playing a tight doubles session but UNM grabbed the team point with a 7-5 win on court one after taking a 6-3 victory at No. 2. The match on court three was halted all tied up at 5.
The Rebels won the first set on two singles courts and were battling in another but the Lobos quickly clinched things by taking a trio of straight-set victories.
QUOTABLE: "The doubles point was close and losing that put us in a hole going into singles. The guys battled in certain spots but playing indoors at high altitude was tough."
-UNLV Head Coach Owen Hambrook
NEXT FOR THE REBELS: UNLV heads to Air Force for a Sunday match in Colorado Springs starting at 11 a.m.
