ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's golf team played in its first fall competition in two years Monday at New Mexico's Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, finishing the day in a tie for ninth at 14-over. The Rebels put together two rounds of 7-over 295 to sit in the top 10 heading into Tuesday's final round.
Four Rebel newcomers were making their Scarlet and Gray debuts, with junior transfer and Denmark native
Nicole Lorup turning in the best performance on the day at 4-under to sit tied for fourth. Lorup shot 3-under 69 in the opening round and a 1-under 71 in round two, sinking nine birdies over the first 36 holes. Fellow freshman
Sydney Bryan holds the next highest spot on the leaderboard, sitting tied for 31st at 4-over 148. Sophomore
Gracie Olkowski checked in two shots behind Bryan at 6-over 150 in a tie for 46th, followed by sophomore
Madeleine Laux in a tie for 61st at 8-over 152 and freshman
Kendall Todd in a tie for 69th at 10-over 154. Freshman
McKenzi Hall, who is competing as an individual, is tied for 85th at 14-over.
On the team leaderboard, San Jose State holds a two-shot lead at the top after a 5-under 571, followed by San Diego State in second at 3-under 573, New Mexico in third at 1-over 577, BYU in fourth at 2-over and Oregon State in fifth at 3-over. BYU's Lila Galeai holds a slim one-shot lead at 8-under over Pepperdine's Kaleiya Romero at 7-under. San Jose State's Antonia Malate is one-shot behind Romero in third at 6-under, while Lorup is tied with four others at 4-under in the tie for fourth.
