ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's golf team wrapped up its first tournament of the new campaign Tuesday, finishing in 12th at New Mexico's Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque. As a team, the Rebels shot a 24-over 888 after a final round of 10-over 298.
Junior transfer and Denmark native
Nicole Lorup was the top Rebel finisher at the event, carding a three-round score of 2-under 214 to finish tied for sixth in her Rebel debut. Lorup shot a 2-over 74 in Tuesday's final round and sank 12 birdies total over the weekend. Lorup was one of four newcomers playing in their first tournament at UNLV. Freshman
Kendall Todd was the next highest finisher in a tie for 43rd at 8-over 224 after she shot her first under-par round as a collegiate with a 2-under 70 Tuesday. Sophomore
Gracie Olkowski came in a tie for 59th at 11-over 227, followed by fellow sophomore
Madeleine Laux in a tie for 66th at 13-over 229. Freshman Syndey Bryan finished in a tie for 72nd at 14-over 230, while freshman
McKenzi Hall rounded it out in 89th at 24-over 240.
BYU, who started the day in fourth place and seven shots off the lead, surged to the top of the leaderboard Tuesday to win the team title by six strokes after they finished at 6-under 858 thanks to a 8-under 280 final round. San Jose State, who started the day in first, finished in second at even, followed by New Mexico in third at 3-over, San Diego State in fourth at 8-over and Pepperdine in fifth at 10-over. Individually, heading into the final round, BYU's Lila Galeai and Pepperdine's Kaleiya Romero were separated by just one shot and the two finished the day as co-medalists at 10-under. New Mexico's Napat Lertsadwattana and SJSU's Antonia Malate finished in third and fourth and 7-under and 6-under, respectively, with Kansas' Sera Tadokoro taking fifth at 4-under.
UP NEXT: The Rebels will have a week off before they head to Monterey, CA for The Molly, which will take place on Monday, September 27 and Tuesday, September 28.
