LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – New UNLV men's tennis player Christopher Bulus is still alive after first day of the annual Larry Easley Memorial Classic held Friday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on campus.
 
Bulus, the event's No. 1 seed, won twice in the top flight of singles in his Rebel debut after transferring from New Mexico Military Institute. He downed Jakub Novak of Grand Canyon, 6-1, 6-1, in the opening round and then swept Mariano Arote, also of GCU, 6-2, 6-2, to advance to Saturday's semifinals.
 
In doubles play, Bulus and partner Milos Dabic won their opening match while second-seeded Jordan Sauer and Jackson Atherton enjoyed a bye.
 
Players from five other western programs -- Arizona State, Gonzaga, San Diego State, Cal Poly and Grand Canyon – are competing in the individual event. Saturday's action gets underway at 9 a.m. with quarterfinal doubles. Admission is free of charge.
