Rebels Finish Eighth In Albuquerque

Junior George Leigh places in the top 10 at William H. Tucker Intercollegiate.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) The UNLV men's golf team shot a final-round 299 Saturday at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate, which was hosted by New Mexico at the UNM Championship Course (par 72, 7,555 yards).

BYU won the team title by 19 shots after a final-round 2-under-par 286 to finish the 54-hole event at 23-under 841. UNM finished second at 4-under, followed by Louisville in third at 2-over, San Diego at 3-over and New Mexico State at 6-over. The Rebels tied for eighth at the 18-team tournament.

New Mexico State's Aidan Thomas held on for medalist honors with a 2-over 74 on Saturday, winning by a shot at 9-under 207. Louisville's Jiri Zuska, BYU's Keanu Akina and New Mexico's Sam Choi all tied for second at 8-under.

The Rebels were led by junior George Leigh, who finished tied for 10th at 2-under. Sophomore Caden Fioroni also recorded a top-20 finish, tying for 19th at 2-over. There were a total of 100 golfers competing.
