Runnin' Rebels To Play At San Jose State Monday

UNLV's first road game in 44 days will be televised by CBS Sports Network at 6 p.m..

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's basketball team will play a true road game for the first time in 44 days as it travels to San Jose, California, to face San Jose State on Monday, Jan. 17 at 6 p.m. at the Provident Credit Union Event Center.

It is a rescheduled game as the original meeting was supposed to occur on Jan. 5, however, because of COVID-19-related issues, it was postponed. The Runnin' Rebels were also supposed to play at San Diego State on Jan. 18, but since that game was also postponed, it created the opportunity for Monday's matchup.

LAST TIME OUT: The Runnin' Rebels headed into their last game having won five of six contests, however, they lost to Fresno State, 73-68, at the Thomas & Mack Center on Friday. Three UNLV players scored in double figures: senior guard Bryce Hamilton had a game-high-tying 24 points, while junior forward Donovan Williams contributed 15 and senior forward Royce Hamm Jr. had 14 with a team-high eight rebounds.

THIS SEASON: Hamilton leads the Runnin' Rebels (9-7, 1-2) in scoring this season at 18.7 points per game, which ranks sixth in the Mountain West, with Williams second at 13.9 ppg. Hamm Jr. is second in the MW in rebounding with 10.3 per contest (10th in the country) and is also averaging 9.3 ppg and 0.9 blocks per game. Senior guard Jordan McCabe leads the team in assists at 4.9 apg (fifth in the MW) and is second in the conference and seventh in the country in assist/turnover ratio (3.5).

UNLV has had an entirely new look this year with nine transfers - eight coming from the Division I level, including four from Big 12 programs. Ten of the Runnin' Rebels' 13 scholarship players had yet to play in a game in a UNLV uniform before this season began.

The returners include Hamilton and senior guard Marvin Coleman and the 15-man roster includes 13 upperclassmen. Hamilton was selected to the 2021-22 Preseason All-Mountain West Team in October. Initially declaring for the 2021 NBA Draft, the second-team All-MW honoree last season who led the Runnin' Rebels in scoring with 17.9 points per game decided to return to the program.

ABOUT THE OPPONENT: San Jose State (7-7, 0-2) has opened Mountain West play with two losses: at Fresno State (79-59) on Tuesday and at home to Colorado State (78-42) on Saturday. Omari Moore leads the team in scoring at 13.9 ppg, while Trey Smith is also averaging double figures with 10.2 ppg. Moore and Trey Anderson lead the team in rebounds with 5.3 per game and Moore is also the team's assist leader with 4.6 apg. The Spartans rank 18th in the country in 3-pointers made per game with 10.0. San Jose State is 6-2 at home this season.

BROADCAST INFO: Monday's game will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network with Rich Waltz and Dan Dickau  calling the action. Jon Sandler, former Runnin' Rebel Curtis Terry and Steve Cofield (sidelines) will handle the UNLV radio call, which may be heard live on ESPN Radio 1100 in Las Vegas.
