Silver State Rivalry Renews Saturday

Mountain West leaders UNLV and Nevada face off at 2 p.m.

RENO, Nev. (UNLVRebels.com) — The Mountain West's second- and third-place teams meet as UNLV visits UNR in the Silver State Series Saturday, Jan. 22, at the Lawlor Events Center.

UNR has a seven-game home winning streak and three straight wins against UNLV in Reno.
  • All-time series: UNLV leads 38-13.
  • Streak: Lost 1. UNLV and UNR split last year's games. UNLV has not won at Reno since 2017.
  • First meeting: Jan. 25, 1975.  UNLV won in Las Vegas 74-63 after three overtimes.
  • Last meeting: Feb. 1, 2021. UNR won 73-70 in Las Vegas.

Scouting UNR

  • UNR's four-game winning streak coincides with its undefeated start in Mountain West play. The Wolf Pack also owns a seven-game home winning streak and three consecutive wins over UNLV in Reno.
  • The Wolf Pack defeated San Diego State, 58-46, on Wednesday in its first action since Jan. 3 after three straight games were postponed due to COVID-19.
  • Senior guard Da'Ja Hamilton scores 14.2 points per game to lead UNR. Hamilton has averaged 20.3 points in conference play.
  • Freshman guard Audrey Roden is second in scoring, averaging 12.0 points having come off the bench in every game and averaging just 17.3 minutes. Roden is the Wolf Pack's leading 3-point shooter, averaging two makes per game at 39.5 percent.

Lady Rebels' last time out: UNLV 74, San Jose State 54

  • Alyssa Durazo-Frescas scored a career-high 24 points after hitting six 3-pointers.
  • Desi-Rae Young had her sixth double-double of the season with 15 points and 15 rebounds.
  • UNLV victory ended a three-game skid against the Spartans, who did not play each other last season due to COVID-19.
  • The Lady Rebels had to rally from an 8-point deficit in the second period. San Jose State jumped to a 27-19 lead before UNLV clamped down on defense and forced back-to-back turnovers to ignite an 11-2 run to finish the half.
  • Essence Booker added 13 points with 11 coming in the second half as part of 9-0 and 8-0 runs that the Lady Rebels used to put the game out of reach after leading 30-29 at halftime.

  • UNLV's 14-4 start is the program's best in 18 seasons.
  • The 2003-04 Lady Rebels (26-8, 10-4 MW) reached 15-3 before suffering a fourth loss.

  • With a 7-for-8 free throw performance at San Jose State, Essence Booker streak of consecutive free throw makes was snapped at 25 over five games.
  • Booker's 14-for-14 free throw shooting against Boise State set a UNLV record.
  • Booker ranks 15th among all Division I players with a .905 free throw percentage.
