Fioroni Paces Rebels Tuesday At Spring Season Opener

UNLV sophomore shoots second-round 1-over 73 at Southwestern Invitational in Westlake Village, California.

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV sophomore Caden Fioroni was the top Rebel performer on Tuesday as he shot 1-over-par 73 during the second round of the Southwestern Invitational, which is being hosted by Pepperdine at the North Ranch Country Club's Lakes/Oaks Course (par 72, 6,992 yards).

Fioroni, who transferred to UNLV from the Waves' program, is tied for 22nd at even-par 144 after 36 holes. UCLA's Devon Bling and Georgia's Trent Phillips are tied for the tournament's lead at 8-under 136, with Texas' Travis Vick one shot back in third place.

The tournament includes six top-25 teams among the field of 12 and is being led after two rounds by No. 3 Arizona State. The Sun Devils carded a second-round-low 13-under 275 and lead by six shots at 18-under 558. No. 7 Pepperdine is second at 12-under, followed by No. 13 Georgia at 9-under. No. 21 Washington is fourth at 7-under, while UCLA rounds out the top five at 1-over. The Rebels are tied for 11th as a team at 27-over.

The remainder of the Rebel individuals currently sit between 47th and 60th place. Sophomore Ben Sawaia and senior David Rauch are both at 8-over, senior J.J. Gresco is at 11-over and junior George Leigh is at 13-over.

TV COVERAGE: The Golf Channel will air College Central from 1-1:30 p.m. PT, and then provide live coverage from 1:30-4:30 p.m. PT Wednesday.
