LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's basketball team will head back out on the road and travel to Fort Collins, Colorado to face No. 22 Colorado State on Friday, Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. MT/6 p.m. PT. The game will mark the Runnin' Rebels' fourth road game since Jan. 17 (a span of 11 days). Because of COVID-19-related rescheduled games, UNLV played four games in eight days from Jan. 17-24.
LAST TIME OUT: The Runnin' Rebels suffered an 80-55 loss at San Diego State on Monday night. Senior guard
Bryce Hamilton scored 23 points, which marked his 14th straight game in double figures and third 20-plus point outing in a row. He also grabbed six rebounds, while senior guard
Jordan McCabe contributed 10 points and five assists and
David Muoka had eight rebounds.
THIS SEASON: Hamilton leads the Runnin' Rebels (11-9, 3-5) in scoring this season at 19.8 points per game, which ranks second in the Mountain West, with junior forward
Donovan Williams second on the team at 13.9 ppg and tops in field-goal percentage at 49.2. Senior forward
Royce Hamm Jr. is second in the MW in rebounding with 9.9 per contest (14th in the country) and is also averaging 8.6 ppg and 1.0 blocks per game. McCabe leads the team in assists at 4.6 apg (seventh in the MW) and is second in the conference and 19th in the country in assist/turnover ratio (2.8).
UNLV has had an entirely new look this year with nine transfers - eight coming from the Division I level, including four from Big 12 programs. Ten of the Runnin' Rebels' 13 scholarship players had yet to play in a game in a UNLV uniform before this season began.
UNLV's 15-man roster includes 13 upperclassmen. Hamilton was selected to the 2021-22 Preseason All-Mountain West Team in October. Initially declaring for the 2021 NBA Draft, the second-team All-MW honoree last season who led the Runnin' Rebels in scoring with 17.9 points per game decided to return to the program.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT: Colorado State (16-1, 6-1) is receiving votes in the Associated Press poll and is ranked No. 22 by the coaches. The Rams have won five games in a row after losing their only conference game of the season at San Diego State. Most recently, CSU defeated UNR at home 77-66 on Tuesday. Three Rams are averaging double figures in scoring: David Roddy (18.6 ppg), Isaiah Stevens (15.1 ppg) and John Tonje (10.6 ppg). Roddy also leads the team in rebounding (7.9 rpg), while Stevens is the assist leader (5.2 apg). The Rams 10-0 at home this season and are third in the country in field-goal percentage (50.2).
