RENO (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV men's golf junior
Caden Fioroni finished tied for second after Tuesday's final round at the Wolf Pack Classic hosted by UNR at Hidden Valley Country Club (Par 72, 7,302 yards).
Fioroni, who notched his third consecutive top-3 finish, scored an 11-under 205 after shooting 4-under 68, 7-under 65 and even par in the first, second and final rounds, respectively. He and San Francisco's Benjamin Partridge came within three shots of winner Bastien Amat (-14) from New Mexico . Behind those three, Fresno State's Mattew Sutherland (-9) took fourth, while LMU's Cade Anderson (-8), UNM's Matthew Watkins (-8) and the Wolf Pack's Trey Davis (-8) tied for fifth.
In the team standings, UNLV came in seventh place at 12-under 852 through 54 holes, which included a season-best round of 15-under 273 in the second round. The tournament crown went to the Lobos at 31-under 833, ahead of San Diego State (-27) in second, BYU (-22) in third, San Diego (-21) in fourth and USF (-20) in fifth.
Junior
Yuki Moriyama had the Scarlet & Gray's second-best score at two-under for the tournament to wind up tied for 28th. The rest of the Rebel lineup included sophomore
Aaron Jarvis (+1) in a tie for 39th,
Inigo Izuzquiza (+4) in a tie for 50th, and freshman
Brayden Bozak (+9) tied for 62nd in his collegiate debut. Competing as an individual, junior
Ben Sawaia (+2) tied for 42nd.
UP NEXT: The Rebels will play one more fall tournament when it heads to Orlando, Florida, for the Isleworth Collegiate, which is being hosted by UCF from Sunday-Tuesday, Oct. 23-25.
