CARY, N.C. (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV's Molly Helgesson won the opening set and made it to a tiebreaker in another before ultimately falling to third-seeded and fifth-ranked Chloe Beck of Duke in the opening round of main draw action at the ITA Women's Tennis All-American Championships being staged this week at Cary Tennis Park.
Beck found herself down a break in the second set but rallied to force a tiebreaker and won that 7-4 to even things before taking set three in the 5-7, 7-6 (4), 6-2 final.
Moving to doubles play later in the day, Helgesson teamed with Rebel teammate Zita Kovacs vs. Arizona State's 22nd-ranked duo of Patricija Sparka and Domenika Turkovic and the Sun Devil pair took it, 6-2, 6-3.
The competition gets even more impressive in doubles consolation play on Thursday as Helgesson and Kovacs will face top-seeded and second-ranked duo of Ivana and Carmen Corley from Oklahoma at 11:30 am PT. Before that, however, Helgesson will take on USC's Snow Han in singles in a match scheduled for 7 a.m. PT. Live stats and video are available for free by visiting the ITA website here.
