LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – Despite competing without one of its top players, the UNLV women's tennis team wrapped up its successful opening weekend with a 4-3 win over Youngstown State on Sunday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
The Rebels improved to 3-0 while the Penguins fell to 2-2 on the young season.
UNLV won a hard-fought doubles point by taking matches on courts two and three.
Moving to singles play, the hosts won the first set on five of six courts and clinched the overall win with three straight-set victories coming from Zita Kovacs, Cindy Hu and Salsa Aher.
YSU picked up a point when CoCo Zhao retired on court six and then Cecilia Rosas rallied past Molly Helgesson at the top of the lineup.
REBEL OF THE MATCH: Salsa Aher teamed with Cindy Hu for the clinching doubles win at the second position, 6-4, and then breezed past Jessica Stanmore, 6-2, 6-2, on court four.
UP NEXT: UNLV is off until hosting North Dakota on February 18 starting with doubles play at 10 a.m. Admission is always free of charge.
